The cows probably looked a tad closer then they are because I was using the zoom. Still, they aren't far when they stand next to the fence like that. Our yard extends probably another twenty/thirty feet past our fence to the road - then there is probably ten feet from the road to their fence - so they aren't on top of us by any means. There is no smell at all. My guess is that is due to the fact there are only 6 cows. Apparently that number stays constant and in the spring there are babies - so we have 3 babies out there now. It is fun - did you know that cows run? In the evening when it gets cooler they start running about. Usually the babies start it, but they all get into it at some point.
It does feel a bit like City Mouse/Country Mouse. Beth was out here last week singing Green Acres. Near our house it looks that way outside our subdivision of about 40 houses - the fact that we can visit Organic Cheese Farms, Dairy Farms, Cattle Farms and Produce Farms (I am looking into buying into a CSA) buys into that too. At the same time - we are about a five minute drive from "town" and so far the only thing I can not find there that I found in St. Louis is PetSmart (they have Petco) and Linens & Things (we have Bed, Bath & Beyond) - both are in Peoria (35 min.) - we can however find 6 Starbucks. These people are wired or apparently exhausted by all the organic stuff and need a pick me up.

Are the cows that close to your house? Do they stink? Wow, what a huge difference for you guys. Reminds me of City Mouse Country Mouse. :) Great pics.
